Traditional Chandeliers – Size May Not Matter

Traditional chandeliers have a nostalgic feel in their design and they all share one significant detail: their sheer size. Kichler Lighting is one of the many manufacturers that deals with massive traditional chandeliers. One particular design is the Villa Flora family. These chandeliers can span up to 4 feet across with up to 3 tiers of 12 bulbs. The framework is laced with legacy bronze finish that is complimented with antique etched glass shades in the form of wonderful flower motifs. Thus, these designs are similar to traditional chandeliers with its upward curves of stem arms branching off a strong stem piece.

Hinkley Lighting traditionally styled chandeliers, especially of the Virginian family, utilize the same design of upward curving. However, instead of flower-shaped shades, the lighting fixtures are faux candelabra. Again, these chandeliers are of the larger sort, being 44 inches high and a little over 37 inches across. These chandeliers mimic traditional Williamsburg chandeliers and are available in pewter or polished brass, all worth well over $1000 a piece.

There is an exception to every rule, and the answer is the chandeliers from World Imports chandeliers. Their old fashioned chandeliers are very different from those produced by other chandelier makers. For instance, one of the chandeliers from the Divinity Collection is relatively small, measuring only 2 feet across. Also, six bulbs are enclosed inside hand-blown glass to mimic the shape of tulips. The two rows of lights are then encased within a wavy cage on the outside. Weathered platinum finishing and small leaves attached to the vine-like cage complete the floral designs of this $1080 chandelier. Another small sized chandelier type would be the Kathryn collection. The shades of these chandeliers are also made from hand blown glass but are shaped in the form of tiny crowns. Dangling beneath each of these crowning lights and the stem piece are beautiful Piastra glass ornaments reflecting the brilliance of oxide gold from these mini chandeliers of yesteryears.
